Freida Mae Roberts, 93, was born Sept. 19, 1925, at Ellis Prairie, Mo., to Herbert and Myrtle (Maggard) Hale. She passed away on April 28, 2019, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo.
Freida grew up in the Ellis Prairie community and graduated from Houston High School in 1945. She then became a school teacher, working her way through college at Southwest Baptist College and obtained her teaching degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1959. She taught at many rural schools, including Ellis Prairie, Prairie Point, Akers and Raymondville. Freida also spent two years teaching in California and then went on to spend many years teaching in the Riverview School District in St. Louis. She retired from there in 1990 after 45 years in the profession.
She was united in marriage to Oral Roberts on Aug. 14, 1965, in Clark County, Nev. Oral passed away on May 9, 1977.
Freida attended church and was baptized with her sister, Verneta. She loved her animals, especially her ducks. She also enjoyed going to the casinos with her sister, Eunice. After her retirement, Freida opened thrift stores in Rolla and Bridgeton and in later years helped Eunice in her flea market.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hub and Myrtle Hale; her husband Oral; a brother Herbert Jr.; and sisters, Leota Traylor and Verneta Williamson.
Freida is survived by her sister, Eunice of Hazelwood, Mo.; as well as many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Funeral services are 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Ellis Prairie Baptist Church with Dr. Howell Burkhead officiating. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m. at Ellis Prairie Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Ellis Prairie Cemetery.
Services are under the care of Bradford Funeral Home of Summersville.Â
