The Houston tennis team isn’t just winning. The Tigers are dominating the competition.
Since losing its opener March 18 against Waynesville, HHS has ripped off six straight victories. The latest was a 6-3 victory Thursday at Richland.
And none of the wins during the streak have been close.
The Tigers have outscored their opponents 49-5 during the run, including three shutouts and a pair of 8-1 wins. The three points HHS gave up to Richland were more than the previous five matches combined.
Against Richland, the Tigers’ top four singles players all won their respective matches. Isaiah Buse cruised to an 8-2 decision while Kyler Ramsey (8-6), Clayton Moore (9-7, 7-4 tiebreaker) and Kyle Mills (9-7) were victorious in close matches.
In doubles play, Buse and Ramsey were 8-3 winners and Korbyn Tune and Elliot Clark teamed up for an 8-4 win.
Houston’s winning streak began March 26 with a 9-0 blanking of Salem. The Tigers then beat Mountain Grove 8-1 before shutting out both Licking and Mountain Grove. They won 8-1 Tuesday at Liberty.
Streak ends Friday at Rolla
The Tigers’ winning streak ended on the road Friday with a 7-2 defeat at Rolla.
Mills had the team’s lone singles win – an 8-4 decision. In doubles play, Buse and Ramsey were 8-3 winners.
