Braedin Groff and Sterling Jackson teamed up for seven strong innings to lead Houston to an impressive 3-1 road victory Monday at Hartville.
Groff threw four shutout innings – striking out six and walking six – en route to his third win of the season. Jackson struck out seven and allowed one earned run in the final three innings for his third save.
The duo – Groff a right-hander and Jackson a lefty – allowed just two hits apiece.
Cody Allen and Groff had RBIs for the Tigers (12-6). Freshman Wiley Sisco scored twice.
The Tigers were without No. 3 hitter and center fielder Alex Castleman, who was ill.
Allen’s third-inning RBI single put Houston ahead 1-0. The advantage doubled in the fifth when Sisco, who was hit by a pitch to reach base, scored on a wild pitch.
Hartville (15-6) took advantage of a walk, stolen base and two-out single in the bottom of the fifth to close the gap to 2-1.
HHS got the run back in the sixth. Hunter Stilley walked with one out, advanced to third base on Jacob Koch’s double and scored on Groff’s groundout.
