Sophomore Alex Castleman homered and knocked in four runs for the second consecutive game as Houston thumped Stoutland 15-2 on the road Thursday.
Castleman had a two-run shot to left field in the first inning, run-scoring single in the fourth and RBI groundout in the fifth. He also had four RBIs in the Tigers’ 12-1 win Tuesday at Thayer and has a team-leading 23 for the season.
Houston (14-6) won its third consecutive game and for the 11th time in 13 outings to move a season-best eight games over .500. The Tigers’ 14 wins tie the 2015 team for the program’s most since 2010, when Houston finished 17-5.
Senior Braedin Groff was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and Hunter Stilley stole four bases. Connor Wilson and Cody Allen joined Castleman with two hits apiece.
Wilson worked four innings for his third win of the season. He allowed four hits and two runs – one earned – while striking out nine and walking four.
Castleman, who had been limited to one inning on the mound this season due to arm issues, struck out three in the final inning.
With Wilson and Castleman’s combined 12 strikeouts, the Houston pitching staff eclipsed 200 Ks for the season. HHS pitchers have fanned 205 batters in 131 innings in 2019.
The Tigers host Plato on Friday for Senior Night.
