The Houston tennis team doubled up on its district hardware.
One day after winning the team district title, the Tigers returned to Willow Springs on Friday for individual play. HHS swept the doubles play to advance both its teams to the sectional round. The top-seeded duo of Isaiah Buse and Kyler Ramsey won districts while teammates Clayton Moore and Kyle Mills were runners-up.Â
Both teams will compete Tuesday in sectionals – again at Willow Springs.Â
For the individual district tournament, players can only play in singles or doubles competition. Matches are best two-out-of-three to six. Single elimination.
Buse and Ramsey, the South Central Association champions, received a first-round bye. They won their quarterfinal match 6-3, 6-3 and the semifinal match 6-3, 6-0 to advance to the title game.Â
Moore and Mills, the third seed, also received a bye. They won their quarterfinal 6-4, 6-0 and then in the semifinals upset the second seed 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3).
That set up an all-Houston finale with Buse and Ramsey prevailing 6-3, 6-3. But with the district’s top two singles and doubles teams advancing, both duos qualified for sectionals.
In singles play for HHS, Elliot Clark won his opening match 6-1, 6-1 before losing 6-2, 6-1.
Prairie Nunnery lost her lone match 6-1, 6-1.Â
