The Houston City Council met Monday night at Houston City Hall.

The Houston City Council approved a plan Monday for its annual asphalt overlay program.

About $170,000 in work will be done by Willard Asphalt Paving Inc., a Lebanon firm.

Joe Kirkman, public works supervisor, made a presentation during a short meeting of the council. Funds for the work come from a quarter-cent sales tax earmarked for the city’s program. Due to transportation costs, bids were higher than expected. Two projects on the list were deleted to bring the work within budget.

In other matters, members:

•Heard that 21 letters had gone out to property owners, where grass was tall and needed mowing.

•Approved mayoral appointments for several boards comprised on local citizens, including planning and zoning and board of adjustment.

•Adjourned into a closed session.
