Houston senior Thomas Smith is competing Monday and Tuesday in the Class 2 golf state championships.
Smith, one of the final 90 golfers remaining, will play two rounds at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield.
Smith qualified for state by finishing tying for sixth place in the sectional round with a 16-over-par 86. It was a higher finish than districts, where Smith was seventh with a 19-over 90.
It’s the second straight state finals appearance for Smith. As a junior, he shot a 93 and 99 to finish tied for 70th.
Teammate Josh Smith was 37th in sectionals with a 38-over 108 to miss qualifying for state.
