The music of the Ozarks and other songs will be performed Saturday at the Melba Performing Arts Center in downtown Houston.
Sponsored by Downtown Houston Inc., the program runs from 3 to 4 p.m. and features Mike Fraser and Tenley Hansen.
Fraser, a former Houston resident, has immersed himself into learning and teaching about Ozark culture and music. He is a founding member of the “Shortleaf Band” that began in 1990 and continues today as a duet with Tenley Hansen. They are listed on the “Missouri Art’s Council’s Touring Artists” roster and perform at house concerts, contra dances, nature centers, festivals and many other venues featuring traditional old-time and Celtic music, as well as some popular covers that represent the Ozarks.
Tickets are $8 before May 10 and $10 at the door. Those 12 and under are free. Tickets are available at The Health Food Store on Grand Avenue in Houston or call 417-967-3000.
