HEATHER SPONSLER

The Houston City Council has named its clerk as interim city administrator, Mayor Willy Walker announced Thursday.

Heather Sponsler, who has worked for the city since June 2009, will temporarily fill the position that has been vacant since February. Sponsler has been city clerk since January 2018. Before that, she was a city utility clerk.

Walker praised Sponsler’s leadership since the administrator job has been vacant. As interim city administrator Sponsler will oversee the day-to-day operation of city government and manage the workforce.

Walker said he and the council will continue to be engaged in seeking the right permanent candidate to lead city government. The process has included advertising about the opportunity and interview sessions.
