Texas County deputies were called to several calls during the last week.

The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•Deputies were dispatched at about 4:45 a.m. May 14 regarding a report of trespassing at a property on Ash Drive at Huggins.

Upon arrival, officers observed that the man who owned the property had positioned his vehicle behind the trespassers’ vehicle so they couldn’t leave, and was talking with one of them in the roadway.

Officers detained the two suspects and consent was received to search the vehicle they were in. During the search, methamphetamine was found.

The landowner and a woman with him said they had heard a vehicle at about 4:30 a.m. and observed a Jeep parked near a gate that had been opened.

The men – ages 46 and 43 – were taken to jail and a probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.

•Christopher M. Belcher, 32, of 205 Orchard St. in Raymondville, was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license after a traffic stop on Highway B at about 11:40 p.m. May 9.

•A 65-year-old Houston man came to the TCSD office on May 7 to report identity theft.

The man told an officer his credit card company had contacted him about two charges, a $200 dinner in Maine and an online purchase of Sun Products. The man said he hadn’t made either charge and his card was cancelled and a new one was issued.

He was given an identity theft packet to complete and send to the Missouri attorney general’s office.

•A 62-year-old woman reported on May 13 that several items with a total value of $7,425 had been stolen from she and her husband’s Bell Road residence at Roby.

The woman said the list of swiped goods included a 1981 Ford motor home valued at $4,000 and several power tools. She also said a condensing unit next to a shop building had been smashed by the motor home as it left the property.

An investigating officer observed tire marks from where the motor home had been parked that went onto Bell Road. Investigation continues.

•Deputies responded May 8 to a report of an abandoned truck on a Highway E property at Houston.

A man at the scene told officers a man had been driving the truck and a woman was also inside. During an investigation, contact was made with the truck’s driver at a residence in the area. He stated the vehicle had been left by him, but that nobody else was with him.

An officer asked the owner of the residence for consent to search inside for a woman who was allegedly also in the truck. During a consent search, a woman was found hiding near a water heater in the bathroom. The woman – Cora J. Smith, 29, of 715 W. Chestnut St. in Houston – was found to have an active Texas County felony warrant. She was arrested and taken to jail.

A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking a felony charge against the man of hindering the prosecution of a felony.

•A 28-year-old Summersville man reported on May 6 that someone had stolen a tractor from his Huckleberry Drive property, run it through a 16-foot pipe gate causing property damage and then left the unit down by a creek where it had apparently quit running.

The man told an investigating officer he had found a driver’s license and credit card lying on the ground where the suspect had apparently jumped from the cab of the tractor. The items belonged to a 20-year-old Birch Tree man, and a probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor seeking charges against him.
