Vera June West, 90, passed away May 11, 2019, at Chestnut Glen Assisted Living, St. Peters, Mo. She was born July 6, 1928, in Summersville, Mo., to Otho E and Ada (Widener) Hubbs.
She grew up in the Summersville area and graduated from Summersville High School in 1946. She married Charles West in 1947 at Simmons, Mo.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son-in-law, Herman Byrd, Jr; a great-grandson, Kaden William Woodson; a sister, Helen Ruth Hubbs; and a brother-in-law, Herbert West.
Vera is survived by her children, Wanda Byrd of West Plains, Mo., Mike West and wife, Jill, of St Peters, Mo., and Rita Oddie and husband, John, of St Peters, Mo.; five grandchildren, Allyson Tipton (Curtis), Bryan Byrd (Christin), Erin West, Amanda West and Angela Woodson (Jeff); seven great-grandchildren, Quincy, Ella, Tess, Caleb, Ryan, Liam, and Kaylee; a sister, Judy Williams and husband, Jim; a sister-in-law, Carol West; and many nieces and nephews.
She attended church faithfully as long as her health permitted and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
Vera taught two years at a one-room school house in Eunice. She enjoyed her time working for the St. Louis County Library. She spent her younger years as a stay at home mother.
Vera enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cross stitch, embroidery, quilting, bingo and playing cards and dominoes with her friends. She enjoyed being with her family and sharing memories.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, and faithful friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2019, at Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation is 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Bryan Byrd, John Oddie, Mike West, Neal West, Roger West and Jeff Woodson.
