Two communities are planning Independence Day parades.

Independence Day parades are planned for Houston (June 29) and Willow Springs (July 4).

At Houston, the event is at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 29. Call the chamber office at 417-967-2220 to participate.

At Willow Springs, the parade begins at 10 a.m. from Booster Field. Wendell Bailey, the organizer, said he expects the parade will be more than an hour in length, which should be a record. Area marching bands have been invited for the event, which is part of the community’s sesquicentennial celebration.

Military and patriotic entries, antique and classic cars, antique tractors and motorcycles are sought at each event.

There is no registration or entry fee for each parade.

Houston also will hold a fireworks show at dark June 29.
