James T. Martin is held in the Texas County Jail on 50,000 bond following an assault Sunday, authorities said. Assistant Prosecutor Jason MacPherson filed charges Monday.

A Cabool man is in the Texas County Jail on $750,000 bond and faces a felony assault charge after an incident involving a woman Sunday.

James T. Martin, 36, of 1305 Westlane Avenue at Cabool, is charged with first-degree assault (a class A felony).

Texas County Sheriff Scott Lindsey reported a deputy was dispatched at about 1:25 p.m. to Nevill Road residence in the Mountain Grove area after a woman there reported a man had assaulted her and struck her with a metal broom.

The responding deputy observed evidence at the residence that supported the reported assault, Lindsey said, and later saw Martin driving on Nevill Road. Martin was arrested and taken to jail after a traffic stop.

The woman was treated for her injuries at Texas County Memorial Hospital, Lindsey said.
