The Raymondville Volunteer Fire Department will host the sixth annual “Festival of Yesteryear” from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Raymondville Fairgrounds.
This year’s version of the event will feature several familiar activities and attractions, but new contests will be on the schedule and event organizers want people to know well in advance because of the nature of the competitions.
One will be a pickle contest, with a dill and sour category and a bread-and-butter and sweet category. Judging will begin at 1 p.m.
A set of facial hair contests just for men has also been added, with categories including mustache, beard and full facial hair. Judging will begin at 4 p.m.
Along with the new contests, a pie baking contest and children’s costume contest will again take place.
The pie contest will be for pies baked from scratch with fruit fillings. Judging begins at 2 p.m.
Pies entered will be auctioned following the contest, with proceeds going to the Raymondville VFD.
The costume contest begins at 11 a.m., with age categories including infant to 4-years, 5-to-7, 8-to-10 and 11-to-12.
In all categories of all contests, cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place finishers. There is no fee to enter any of the contests.
