Vesta Jean Brown, 83, daughter of James and Avon (Shanks) Willhite, was born April 14, 1936, in Yukon, Mo. She passed away July 13, 2019, in Lee’s Summit, Mo.

Jean grew up in Houston area. She attended Big Creek, Raymondville and Houston High School, graduating in 1954. She married Roy Dean Brown on April 29, 1954, and to this union three children were born, Michael, Chris and Jennifer.

After graduation, she and Roy Dean moved to Kansas City, Mo. Jean worked in the school cafeteria for 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Dean Brown; and one brother, Jimmy Dean Willhite.

She is survived by her three children, Michael Brown and wife, Jamy, of Blue Springs, Mo., Chris Brown of Raytown, Mo., and Jennifer Giles and husband, Mark, of Oak Grove, Mo.; one brother, Roger Willhite of Yukon, Mo.; a sister, Pat Szalla of Bartlesville, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and friends made through the years.

Jean enjoyed growing flowers and worked very hard to have a beautiful yard with many varieties of plants and colorful flowers. She loved to go junkin’ –– taking in any type of garage or yard sale, always finding that special “great deal.”

She had a special love for her dogs and treated them as family. Her greatest love was her family. Spending time with them was always an enjoyable time filled with fun and laughter.

She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation is 10-11 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Evans Funeral Home with services beginning at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Wesley Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Pine Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home. Pallbearers are Logan Schwark, Pete McCain, Herman Watson, Alex Hankins, Bill Scheiberler and Dale Willhite.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
