WARNING ON DEEDS

Two Texas County officeholders on Thursday warned real estate owners — especially new homeowners — to be wary of being targeted by high-priced offers for copies of deeds.

Recorder of Deeds Lindsay Koch said that companies are offering property owners copies of their deeds and a ‘property report’ for $85-$89. The recorder’s fee is $1 per page for copies, which usually provides the same information. Other information in the ‘report’ may be obtained from Texas County Assessor Debbie James’ office. Koch said most property deeds are no more than two pages and that most property owners already have their original property deed in their possession. If anyone receives one of these letters, the officeholders ask residents to ignore it and contact their office.

To  obtain copies of deeds and other related information, contact the Texas County recorder’s office at 417-967-8438 or the Texas County assessor’s office at 417-967-4709. Both offices are located at the Texas County Administrative Center at 210 N. Grand Ave. in Houston.
