Three persons were seriously injured at about 6:05 p.m. Friday, July 19, when a truck struck a horse-drawn buggy on Highway AT about five miles northwest of Licking.

Three persons were seriously injured Friday night in a collision with an Amish buggy northwest of Licking, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

Tpr. Jacob Sellers said a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Ronald D. Thomas, 60, of Licking, struck the horse-drawn buggy operated by Mattie Nunschwander, 39, of Licking, on Highway AT about five miles northwest of Licking.

Nunschwander was flown to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Two children, Jonas Nunschwander, 4; and Sam Nunschwander, 6, both of Licking, were flown to St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. Each was serious, Sellers said.

The buggy was totaled. The pickup had moderate damage.

Assisting at the scene were the Licking Fire Department, two Licking officers and Texas County Memorial Hospital ambulance crews.

Two persons in the Amish community had died since 2014 in the Licking area as a result of motor vehicle accidents.
