Authorities said a utility pole was downed Saturday morning near Thomasville Road and East Highway 17 in Houston after a truck caused damage there.

That portion of Highway 17 was closed by afternoon. The Houston Fire Department and the Missouri Department of Transportation were called to the scene.

The driver left the area and was later questioned as part of an investigation.

The City of Houston’s electrical department removed the old pole and replaced it by later in the afternoon. Utility providers also were required to re-attach their wiring to the pole.

Statement from the City of Houston at about noon Saturday:

“Power should be restored to all residential areas effected. The pole is out and locates are being done. The panda house, both carwashes, MFA and the food pantry currently have no power.

Power will go back off in residential areas that were effected earlier sometime this afternoon for about an hour while the city crew puts the lines back on the pole.

Modot and city crews have the highway and side streets closed with detours so please avoid this area if possible.”
