Memorial visitation: Saturday, Aug. 17, at Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home, Cabool

George Louis Casper, 82, of Cabool, passed Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2019.

He was born Feb. 19, 1937, in Belgrade, N.E., son of Louis D. and Helen Sanford Casper. He and Judy Hughes were married Nov. 26, 1960, in Kanawha, Iowa.

He grew up on a farm in Nebraska along with his six siblings. He attended the University of Nebraska until he followed his parents’ move to Britt, Iowa, to continue to help with the family farm. He was a die-hard Cornhusker fan and very proud to have attended college there.

He and his wife, Judy, moved to Cabool in December 1979 and continued dairy farming there.

He always had horses, but the Missouri Fox Trotter was his favorite breed. He spent countless hours promoting and advocating for the safe and humane treatment of them. He became a certified judge, DQP, saddle club president and board member of the MFTHBA. He always loved helping the youth program and made some very special friends along the way.

He enjoyed cheering on his kids or grandkids at sporting events, especially basketball games.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lanny; and a grandson.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 59 years, Judy; five children, David, Jeff, Bert, Rhonda Farmer and Christopher; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul; four sisters, Connie, Mary, Linda and Margaret; and many other family members.

A memorial visitation was Saturday, Aug. 17, at Elliott-Gentry-Carder Funeral Home, Cabool.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cabool Senior Center c/o the funeral home.
