Before the project, city crews had dug debris out from under and around the line and created a makeshift dam to reroute the creek flow. Funding for the work was secured from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Concrete was provided by River Rock Redi-Mix in Houston.

The Houston Lions Club held its installation of officers for the year and honored past district governor Don Shelhammer for his service to the club as president. Rep. Robert Ross presented Lion Shelhammer with a Missouri House of Representatives Resolution honoring him for his years of service to the Lions Club, Houston community and Texas County. Past district governor Tom Steinbach installed the newly elected officers into their new positions. The new officers include president Bennie Cook, vice president Russ Stigall, treasurer James Huff, secretary Peggy Hirt, and board members Brad Eidson, Robert Rouse, Don Shelhammer. It was among more than 1,200 photographs submitted by amatuer photographers from across the state. The winning photos will be displayed Aug. 8-18 at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.
