DAVID KLOTZ

One person is charged with the assault Wednesday of a woman at Ellis Prairie that left her with injuries, the Texas County Sheriff’s Department said.

David Klotz, 52, of 10684 N. Farm Road 115 in Willard, is charged with second-degree domestic assault (a class D felony).

Authorities said a concerned citizen called 911 regarding a man hitting and choking another person in a red van traveling on Highway AA near Bucyrus. A responding deputy observed the van at a Highway AA residence and stopped to investigate.

As the deputy arrived, Klotz was reportedly seen walking around the end of the home, but turned and trotted back around where he had come from. The deputy followed and made contact with the victim, who was reportedly crying and displayed injuries consistent with the reported assault, including a swollen black-and-blue right eye, a knot on her forehead and multiple red marks around her neck. She was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital by ambulance with a possible fracture of the right orbital bone surrounding her eye, authorities said.

Klotz was detained at the scene by two other responding deputies. The woman reportedly stated she and Klotz had been drinking and swimming and he became angry, which set off a physical altercation. At one point, the woman said the suspect tried to push her from the moving vehicle.

Klotz is held in the Texas County Jail on $200,000 bond.
