The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:

•A 29-year-old Springfield man reported on Aug. 11 that he found his stolen moped being advertised for sale online by a 23-year-old man in the Cabool area.

A deputy traveled to Brushy Creek Road at Houston, where the suspect’s mother lives, and observed the moped lying on the ground in front of a shed, with many parts missing. The suspect came to the TCSD office later the same day, and during questioning stated he bought the moped from a person in Springfield for $100 and had used parts from it to build his own and had no idea it was stolen.

An investigating deputy noted in a report that the suspect had been involved in multiple previous cases of theft of a motor vehicle, and that in 2018 another stolen moped had been recovered at his mom’s house.

A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.

•A deputy was dispatched on Sept. 17 to speak with a 33-year-old Houston man at Texas County Memorial Hospital who had apparently been the victim of an assault.

The officer made contact with the man and noticed he had injuries to his face and was being treated by an emergency room physician. The man told the officer that since he had gotten out of jail, he and his estranged wife had been communicating on Facebook. He stated that at about 2 a.m., he and the woman had traveled by vehicle to a location by Sand Shoals bridge, where two men emerged from the bushes and one of them began to beat him up.

SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT BLOTTER

Deputies from the Texas County Sheriff’s Department were called to several investigations in the last week.

The man told the officer the two men and the woman then drove away and left him there. He said he went to a nearby house and asked to use a phone to call for help.

Investigation is ongoing.

•A 39-year-old Cabool woman reported on Sept. 21 that her 40-year-old former boyfriend had swiped her 1999 Chevrolet pickup valued at $2,000 from her Highway MM residence.

The woman told an investigating deputy that she and the man had gotten into an argument and he took off in the vehicle. Investigation is ongoing.

•A 26-year-old woman reported on Sept. 17 that a storage unit she rents had been broken into and a bag containing $500 worth of tools had been stolen. The woman stated a lock had been cut off of the door to the unit.

•Tyson R. Warner, 37, of 10834 Highway 17 at Success, was issued a citation for trespassing after pumping gas at Pittman’s Store on Aug. 16. Warner had been banned from the property after an earlier incident.

•A 61-year-old Houston man reported on Sept. 14 that his Morton Road residence had been broken into and multiple items with a total value of $1,000 had been stolen. A 49-year-old man is a suspect.

•A 65-year-old Cabool man reported on Aug. 12 that a safe containing $5,000 and paperwork had been stolen from a closet at his Malberg Road residence.

The man told an investigating officer that only two or three people could have known about the safe. Investigation is ongoing.
