A new City of Houston sales tax will go on the books on Oct. 1, the Missouri Department of Revenue said.
The 1 percent levy will bring Houston’s sales tax rate to 8.6 percent.
Voters in April approved the tax that will be split among the Houston Police Department, Houston Fire Department and Houston Parks and Recreation Department.
The breakdown of the tax: 50 percent to parks and recreation, 32.5 percent for the fire department and 17.5 percent to the police department.
In 2018, another 1 cent sales tax collected in Houston generated about $706,507.
