The Texas County Health Department said Tuesday it plans to hold an informational meeting on the dangers of vaping.

Representatives from area schools, businesses and civic groups will have the opportunity to learn more about educating students, organizational members and the community in general about the dangers of vaping.

A “train the trainer” program is 10 a.m. until noon Friday, Nov. 8, at the Texas County Health Department, 950 N. U.S. 63, in Houston. For more information or to register call 417-967-4131.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson recently signed a declaration supporting a statewide campaign for education on the problem of youth vaping. It is already illegal for anyone under the age of 18 to purchase or use vaping products. However, there’s been an influx of youth across the country, including in Missouri, who are vaping, the health department said.

The number of middle and high school students who use these products have jumped to nearly 27 percent last year from around 19 percent in 2014.
