The Houston High School junior varsity volleyball team traveled to a tournament at Bourbon last Saturday, and came away as the event’s champions for the second straight year. 

The Junior Lady Tigers went 4-0 and didn’t lose a set all day, beating Bourbon, Kingston, Cuba and Viburnum. 

Houston’s Ellie Locke had 13 kills in the four-match stretch, while Kellsi Gayer had 12 kills and Aliyah Walker recorded 22 assists and served up 15 aces. Paige Dennis had 21 digs for the Lady Tigers and and Karly Drake notched 2 blocks.

Houston’s freshmen team also played in a tournament at Camdenton. 

The ninth-grade Lady Tigers went 3-1-1 in the event to win the consolation bracket, beating Hillcrest twice and Osage once, tying Camdenton and falling to Columbia Hickman. 

Houston’s Makenzi Arthur served 19 aces and recorded 14 assists in the tournament, while Olivia Crites had 9 kills and 3 blocks. Taylor Burch had 5 kills for the Lady Tigers, while Madi Reed had 11 assists.
