Lois Evelyn Yates was born Jan. 8, 1926, at Nebo. Mo., to Cecil Elmer and Nancy Myrtle Blankenship Handley. She passed away Oct 10, 2019, at Plato.
She would forever love the Missouri hills that helped to shape her heart and life; and although she left many friends in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi, where she lived for the past 20 years.
Lois grew up in the Nebo, Lynchburg area and attended grade school at Lone Star. She married Kenneth Yates on May 3, 1941, and they had four children.
Lois was saved and baptized at a young age and was a member of Lynchburg Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Lodema Ruth Cook; a son, Larry Joe Yates; and an infant son.
Surviving are her daughter, Beverly Smith of Plato; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; and 21 great great-grandchildren.
Her life was full of her indomitable energy, faith, neighbors, family and always work, in many different jobs, the last when she was 73. Mrs. Yates worked for the Post Exchange, Hamm Vending and Holman Howe Funeral Home.
In her younger years she enjoyed camping, fishing and elk hunting. Mrs. Yates also enjoyed cross stitch, quilting, being outdoors and watching PBR rodeos. Her greatest enjoyment came in sending out birthday cards to all of her loved ones. She never missed a birthday.
Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at Mount Carney Church with the Rev. Frankie McCune officiating. Burial was in Mount Carney Cemetery under the direction of Evans Funeral Home.
