Mary Emma (Barkley) Tyger, the daughter of the late Gennie Mae Walker and the late Berry Washington Barkley, was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Ripley, Mississippi. She was one of 15 children.
Mary was married to Roy Allen Tyger on March 4, 1952, in Marion, Ark., and to this union four children were born — Mary Lou, Pamela, Allen Wayne and Thomas.
With Roy’s career in the U.S. Army, the family moved and called many places home. Some of their most memorable were Germany, Alaska, Kentucky, Georgia, Texas, Florida and Missouri. Mary had a great number of friends she made each place she lived and was a dedicated letter writer and picture taker.
Every move would bring new adventures, a new garden, flowers in the yard and many sewing projects to make each place home.
When Mary’s health declined and she could no longer live alone, she moved to Houston House Nursing Home where she was treated like family. Mary enjoyed keeping her candy dish full for all of her friendly nurses. She also loved a good game of Bingo.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter and two grandsons, and several other family members.
Mary is survived by her many family members and friends she loved and cherished.
Mary was respected and loved and will be greatly missed by all who were touched by her life.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2019, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Kennett, Mo., with funeral services following in the chapel at 11 a.m. with Mr. Allen Tyger officiating.
Burial will be at Memorial Garden Cemetery in Kennett, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Houston Senior Center.
