An area K-9 unit performed a random check at Licking Schools on Tuesday, according to Licking Police Department Chief Pat Burton.
He said that in conjunction with the Licking School District and the Mountain View Police Department, the LPD had a K-9 officer perform random checks of the high school, junior high and other parts of the school grounds.
“The check was done as part of an effort by the school district and its school resource officer to help in preventing narcotics, alcohol and other illegal products from causing harm to students,” Burton said, “and to help foster and promote a safer learning environment.”
During the check, an unknown substance was located, Burton said, as well as two vaping devices.
“The Licking Police Department would like to thank the Mountain View Police Department for their assistance with the event and the Licking R-8 School District for their continued efforts in ensuring the safety of the children attending classes within the school district,” Burton said.
