Texas County Healthcare Foundation’s 13th annual chili cook off is Saturday at the Houston Area Chamber of Commerce Fairgrounds on North U.S. 63.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and benefits Hospice of Care, which provides hospice care for terminally ill patients and their family members regardless of their ability to pay for the services. All funds remain in the community for use by area residents.
Several businesses join to sponsor raffles, entertainment and live auctions. The corporate underwriter is Progressive Ozark Bank in Houston.
A seven-night stay in Orlando, Fla., at the Wyndham Bonnet Creek Resort (adjacent to Walt Disney World Resort) in late June is one of many live auction items to be offered. Other things include St. Louis Blues Hockey and Kansas City Chiefs tickets, seven-night stay at the Bluegreen Wilderness Club at Big Cedar in Branson, handcrafted custom entry table, metal fire pit, handcrafted bull elk fine metal artwork, Pioneer Woman getaway and other items.
Four equal quarters of beef will be auctioned off through a donation made by John and Jeannie Beltz, Steve and Diane Pierce, and David and Carol Keeney.
The Beltz, Keeney and Pierce families have been outstanding supporters of Hospice for many years, organizers said.
Fifteen chili cook off teams will compete for six awards, ranging from judge’s choice to the people choice.
Tickets are $10 each, or $5 for children 10 and under. They are available at the gate or through the Hospice of Care and the foundation at TCMH.
