Sales tax revenue collected by city merchants is up about 4 percent in the first three quarters of 2019 compared to the same period a year ago, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue. 

Revenue from sales taxes collected in Houston were down for the month, but up for the year, reports the Missouri Department of Revenue.

The tally from a one-cent sales tax was $48,138, which was down about $5,800 from the same time a year ago. In the first three quarters of the year, revenue totals $608,057, which is up about $21,656 or nearly 4 percent from 2018.

Merchants also collect two quarter-cent sales for streets, sidewalks and utility improvements. Each totaled about $11,646 for the month.

Revenue from online transactions totaled $3,532. About $41,875 has been collected for the year.

The city received its first check from a one-cent sales tax earmarked for parks, fire and police departments. It was $1,513. Collections began on Oct. 1.
