A Texas County Sheriff's Department has resulted in charged filed in an illegal weapons and traffic case.

Carl E. Hutsell, 24, of 1294 John St. in Houston, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm (a class D felony) and driving while revoked (a class E felony).

A deputy’s report said at about 8:10 p.m. Oct. 9, Hutsell was seen in the driver’s seat of a tan Chevrolet Equinox at U.S. 63 and Highway B. The officer knew Hutsell’s driver’s license was revoked, so he rolled down his patrol car’s window and advised Hutsell to pull into the parking lot of an adjacent bank, according to a report.

The deputy reported that after contact was made with Hutsell, he stated he knew he shouldn’t be driving and was on felony probation, but he didn’t have anything with him that he shouldn’t.

But during the process, the deputy reportedly observed a black .22-caliber handgun in a holster on the vehicle’s center console. During a search of the vehicle, a pill container with 46 bullets inside was found. The gun had a magazine in it with eight bullets inside, and a second full magazine was found in the holster, according to a report.

The officer was advised by dispatch that Hutsell had four prior convictions for driving while revoked in the past 10 years.

Hutsell was charged on Dec. 11, and is held in the Texas County Jail on $150,000 bond.
