A Birch Tree woman is charged with two felonies following the filing of charges Dec. 11 in Texas County.
Lucretia M. Shoup, 36, is charged with felonies of leaving the scene of an accident – property damage exceeding $1,000, and driving without a valid license – third and subsequent offense.
A trooper reported that at about 12:30 a.m., he was called to a crash on Highway 17 about two miles south of Summersville. Upon arrival, a black Lincoln LS was observed crashed into a fence, but the driver wasn’t in the area.
The officer reported speaking to the man who owns the property where the crash occurred, and he said about 500 feet of the fence was damaged and the repair cost would be about $3,000.
The trooper reported that at about 1:30 a.m., he was advised that the driver of the Lincoln – Shoup – was in Mountain View and had called to report the incident. The officer went to Mountain View and made contact with Shoup at a gas station. She reportedly told the officer she hadn’t called earlier because her phone battery was low, and she had flagged down a passing vehicle and been given a ride to the gas station.
A computer check revealed Shoup’s driver’s license expired in May 2006, and she had three prior convictions of driving without a valid license.
The trooper issued Shoup citations, and she was formally charged on Dec. 11 with a bond set at $200,000.
