CALVIN CORNELIUS

After an investigation by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department, a local man faces several felony sex charges and is held in jail on $750,000 bond.

Texas County Sheriff Scott Lindsey said that earlier this month, an investigation was opened in response to a child abuse hotline report received by the Missouri Department of Social Services Children’s Division. Lindsey said the report alleged that a female victim had been subjected to forcible sexual contact beginning at the age of 10, and the abuse continued over multiple years.

On Jan. 15, a suspect was arrested and interviewed about the allegations. Lindsey said information developed during the investigation supported the arrest and sufficient probable cause for criminal charges.

Texas County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Jason MacPherson charged Calvin C. Cornelius, 33, of Mountain Grove, with first-degree rape, three counts of first-degree statutory rape and two counts of statutory sodomy.
