The death of a 10-year-old Summersville child shouldn’t be viewed as a public health emergency, according to a statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
The Summersville Police Department received a report of the death of the child on Feb. 24. It was reported that the child was suffering from a medical issue. Texas County Sheriff Scott Lindsey said all child deaths are investigated, and the circumstances surrounding the death are reviewed.
The Summersville department asked the sheriff’s office to assist it in its investigation. The county coroner also joined the process.
“The coroner has reviewed the immediate circumstances surrounding the medical issue and determined that there is not a public health emergency,” said Lindsey. “The joint investigation with the Summersville Police Department and review of the death is ongoing.”
