Deer season in Texas County began Saturday with snow that dumped a few inches across a region that produces more deer each year than nearly any county in Missouri.
It was also cold.
By early Sunday, hunters had killed 949 deer in Texas County. That was third in the state.
Hunters in Franklin County had killed 1,086 deer. Other leaders in the state: Bollinger (1,043), Texas (949), Callaway (940) and Pike (838).
The season closes Nov. 22.
