There is an elevated fire danger Monday, April 17, in the county.

The National Weather Service says there is an elevated to significant fire danger Monday as a result of gusty winds and dry conditions, despite recent rain and increasing greener grass.

The main fire weather area of concern today is for areas east of U.S. 65, including the Mark Twain National Forest and areas of Texas County.

Fire can spread rapidly in these conditions, it said, if one does start. Outside burning is highly discouraged.
