The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- A deputy responded on Oct. 8 to a report of vicious dogs at a Shipp Drive residence at Licking.
The officer made contact with a 29-year-old woman there who said a 59-year-old neighbor woman’s three dogs had attacked a goat of hers, and when she attempted to stop them they turned on her and chased her into her vehicle. She said she remained trapped in the vehicle for a while because the dogs stayed close by, aggressively barking. She said that before the officer arrived, the neighbor had called the dogs home.
The officer reported observing a mauled dead goat leashed to a barn on the property.
The deputy made contact with the neighbor and observed her struggling to keep the dogs inside the house while she was exiting. She was advised of the situation and that if her dogs bit another animal or a person, she might be held criminally liable.
- On Sept. 15, a deputy investigated a reported burglary at an Oriole Road residence at Cabool.
The officer made contact with a 39-year-old woman there who said she had previously lived there and was last there in July. The woman said she had received a call from a neighbor who had noticed an open door.
She said several items with a total value of $1,022 had been stolen. The officer observed signs that someone had likely been staying there for a while, along with some animals.
- A 23-year-old Roby man reported on Oct. 19 that a gun valued at $400 had been stolen from inside his truck at his School Drive residence. There are no suspects.
- A 67-year-old Bucyrus woman reported on Oct. 6 that a man had stolen her crossbow from her Crane Drive residence.
The woman told an investigating deputy that the man had been doing work for her and the crossbow was to be part of his payment. She said the man hadn’t completed the work, but took the crossbow.
Investigation is ongoing.
- A 32-year-old man reported on Oct. 5 that a Honda ATV valued at $700 had been stolen from his Possum Trot Drive residence at Raymondville. There are no suspects.
