A 43-year-old inmate housed at the South Central Correctional Center at Licking was pronounced dead Wednesday morning.
Anthony Edwards was serving two life sentences for second-degree murder and armed criminal action out of St. Louis City.
He had been in prison since November 2000.
An autopsy will be conducted, the Missouri Department of Corrections said.
