Two area residents running for a trustee position at Texas County Memorial Hospital were recently disqualified.

According to a letter from the Missouri Ethics Commission (MEC), Allan Branstetter, incumbent, and Chelsye Scantlin failed to file a financial interest statement, also known as a personal financial disclosure, by Jan. 16.

Accordingly, the MEC notified the hospital and county clerk that the two were disqualified pursuant to Section 105.492.2, RSMo.

The section states that “If a candidate for office does not file a financial interest statement by the close of business on the twenty-first day after the last day for filing for election for which the person is a candidate, the commission shall notify the official who accepted such candidate’s declaration of candidacy that the candidate is disqualified. Such election official shall remove the candidate’s name from the ballot.”

George Sholtz and Jennifer Hugenot are the remaining candidates for the five-year term.
