The Feb. 20, 2024 meeting of the Cabool Art Club was held at the Cabool History Museum and hosted by Sari Wright, Liz Durham and Sandra Leidy. The program “The Art of Poetry” was called to order with a prayer by Shelley Travis, club president.
Sari Wright introduced the winners of the 2024 Middle School Poetry Writing Contest and presented the awards: 1st Place: Adyana Arce, 2nd Place: Bishop Montgomery and 3rd Place: Crystal Roberts. Art Club members were pleasantly entertained and at times deeply moved as the students read their winning compositions and shared their inspiration behind the poem. Members enjoyed the creativity of the young poets shown by their imagination and skill in putting their thoughts into words. Many thanks to the students for sharing their poems with us.
Roll Call continued the theme of poetry as each member shared a favorite poem. Marie Beller gave the treasurer’s report and the minutes of the November meeting were read and approved.
Lyn Santa informed the group about the plans for the Springfield Art Museum to be closed effective Sept. 1 for a couple of years for extensive renovations and expansion to the building and surrounding property. Santa also provided details about the Southwest Missouri Museum Associates annual Honors and Extension Luncheon at Twin Oaks Country Club scheduled for March 27 in Springfield.
Vicki Woods gave an update from the Nominating Committee.
The 2023-2024 Club program theme, “Art Through the Ages” was announced with more details to be provided in March.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be March 19 at the Cabool Methodist Church and will feature Felicia Ellis presenting a program on Basket Weaving.
