The Texas County Coroner’s office answered 38 calls in January 2024, compared to 33 calls in January 2023. 

In the community, there were 31 natural deaths, including five from lung disease, three from cancer, three from stroke, two from myocardial infarction, two from alcoholism, two from dementia, two from pneumonia, two from influenza, two from pulmonary embolism, two from sepsis, one from liver failure, one from aortic dissection, one from arterial blockage, one from hemorrhage, one from Parkinson’s Disease and one from fetal demise.

There were five accidental deaths in the community: two due to hypothermia, one from unintentional Tylenol toxicity, one from a fall and one farming-related accident.

There were two offender deaths at South Central Correctional Center, one due to natural causes. There were no suicides or homicides in January.
