The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- A deputy was dispatched to Texas County Memorial Hospital on Feb. 15 regarding a report of a dog bite.
The officer made contact with a 36-year-old man there who said his English bulldog and another dog had been fighting over a female dog at his Colburn Road residence at Cabool and he had been bitten by his dog when he tried to separate them.
The deputy advised the man to quarantine his dog for 10 days and report any abnormal behavior to the Texas County Health Department.
The man said he hadn’t had the dog for long, but the previous owner told him it had received all necessary vaccinations.
- On Jan. 12, a deputy responded to an investigation referral from the Division of Family Services regarding possible child abuse at a Storm Lane residence at Licking.
A DFS report indicated that a 36-year-old man there throws knives at multiple children who live there and leaves the knives stuck in walls. The report also said the man dragged a 6-year-old boy across a floor, leaving a mark on his back, and hit him in the face with a heater, leaving bruising.
The report also indicated that a 12-year-old boy said the home is infested with bed bugs and roaches and has no heat, and that the man uses drugs and the kids sleep on the floor.
Forensic interviews with the two boys have been scheduled with the Child Advocacy Center in West Plains, and the deputy will report information from the results.
- A deputy was dispatched Feb. 19 regarding a report of a vehicle theft at Licking.
The officer made contact with a 23-year-old man who said a Dent County deputy had contacted him and indicated his 2015 Chevrolet pickup had been located in Dent County.
The man told the Texas County officer the truck had been left at a friend’s house on Ichord Drive due to the keys being lost. He also said a 1995 Polaris ATV was in the truck’s bed when it was stolen.
The Texas County officer contacted a Dent County officer and was advised that the truck had been found in a forested area, and that there was no evidence it had been stolen and it was their opinion that there had not been an ATV in the bed.
The Dent County officer said the man had been contacted and said he was behind on payments on the truck and thought it had been repossessed.
The Texas County officer reported that the truck’s owner had provided two different stories about its disappearance, and that there are no suspects and investigation continues.
