The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- On. Jan. 20, a 63-year-old man reported theft at his Oakdale Road residence at Cabool.
The man provided a list indicating numerous items with a total value of $7,382 had been stolen.
A deputy noted that a .22 caliber rifle on the list was located in the TCSD evidence room after being seized in an unrelated investigation.
- On Feb. 7, a deputy responded to an Elk Creek Drive residence for paper service and made contact with a woman (of unreported age) who was in possession of a camper valued at $4,000 and a crossbow that were on the man’s list. She told the officer that a man had hauled the camper to the property with the owner’s permission.
The owner was notified and said he no longer wished to have the two items listed as stolen.
- A deputy responded on Jan. 26 to the Cabool Police Department regarding a report of a domestic assault.
The officer made contact with a 36-year-old woman there who said she had gone to her former boyfriend’s Bado Road residence to retrieve some belongings and that he accused her of stealing his car keys. The woman told the deputy that a fight ensued, and the man grabbed her hair and threw her to the ground.
She also said the two wrestled on the ground for possession of her cell phone, which the man took.
The deputy reported observing multiple minor injury marks on the woman.
A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.
- On Feb. 25, a deputy responded to the Roadside Park at Licking to meet with a 43-year-old man regarding an alleged assault.
The man told the officer that he had been punched in the face by a 63-year-old Licking man while at the Crow Creek Bar north of Licking. The victim said he didn’t know why he had been assaulted, but that the suspect had asked, “where’s my money?”
The officer went to the bar and observed security video that showed the punching incident, as well as the two men yelling at each other in the parking lot. The deputy went to the suspect’s residence, but was advised he had left 20 minutes earlier.
A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.
- On Feb. 26, a 74-year-old man reported noticing a stray calf with his herd at his Highway 38 property at Cabool.
The man told a deputy he had contacted all the surrounding cattle owners and nobody claimed the calf. The officer advised him of statutes regarding stray animals.
