A Bucyrus man faces a trio of felony charges following a Houston Police Department investigation of a late-night incident in downtown Houston on Feb. 2.

Kolby J. Morgan, 23, of 14898 Sand Hollow Road in Bucyrus, is charged with first-degree assault – serious injury or special victim (a class A felony), as well as second-degree assault and possession of a controlled substance at a county jail (both class D felonies).

An HPD officer was dispatched at about 11:15 p.m. regarding a report of a verbal dispute at the Piney River Inn apartments on Grand Avenue. The officer made contact with two men there who had been assaulted by Morgan, who had reportedly walked south on Grand Avenue.

The officer located Morgan on Steffens Street, and he was detained and watched by another officer while the first one went back to the victims. One of the men had a broken nose and was taken to Texas County Memorial Hospital for treatment. The other man had reportedly tried to intervene when Morgan was beating up the first, and had sustained multiple punches to the face.

Morgan was taken to the Texas County Jail, where he was asked if he had any contraband on him and replied that he didn’t. But he was then reportedly found to be in possession of a cigarette pack containing marijuana.

Cash-only bond on the charges is set at $20,000.
