Two residents from Licking were hurt — one seriously — in an accident early Sunday about seven miles northwest of their hometown on Highway N, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.
Brett C. Lewis, 23, was operating a northbound 2013 Chevrolet Sonic traveling at a high rate of speed that ran off the roadway and struck a fence and tree.
Lewis had minor injuries and was transported to Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston. A passenger, Shakirah Williams, 22, of Licking, had serious injuries and was sent to Texas County Memorial Hospital.
Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt, said Tpr. T.L. Sullivan. The vehicle was totaled following the 2:50 a.m. crash. Lewis is charged with misdemeanor DWI and misdemeanor driving without a driver’s license – second offense, Sullivan said.
