The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- On Feb. 21, a deputy traveling northbound on U.S. 63 observed a white Chevrolet sedan swerve into an adjacent lane and almost hit a black sedan that had to swerve onto the shoulder to avoid being hit.
The officer followed the car and noticed it fail to properly maintain a lane again, and initiated a traffic stop at U.S. 63 and Highway F.
The deputy made contact with the woman who was driving and determined she was not impaired.
Barbara S. Morris, 59, of 16670 Oak Hill Road in Houston, was issued citations for failure to drive on the right half of the roadway and no insurance.
On March 14, the deputy was advised that Morris had died, and both citations were voided and not forwarded for prosecution.
- Susan E. Brown, 46, of 164572 Sand Shoals rod in Bucyrus, was arrested Feb. 25 for having an active Texas County warrant for a felony drug possession charge.
A deputy who was aware of the warrant made the arrest at a Sleepy Hollow Trailer Park residence at Raymondville. Upon arrival, the officer knocked on the door and made contact with a person who indicated Brown was in a back bedroom.
The deputy went to the room and located Brown hiding between a box spring and mattress. She was taken to the Texas County Jail.
