The following are excerpts from just some of the reports recently generated by the Texas County Sheriff’s Department:
- On March 17, a 70-year-old man reported that six cows were on his Taus River Lane property and were eating corn he puts out for deer.
The man told an investigating deputy that the cows had been there for several days and had eaten thousands of pounds of corn.
The officer contacted a 41-year-old man who owns the cows and they were returned to his property. The man was advised that if the same thing happened again, he could be cited for animal trespassing.
- A 37-year-old woman reported stalking and theft on Feb. 19.
The woman told an investigating deputy that her 35-year-old former boyfriend had been following her, leaving notes, running her off the road, calling her and sending dozens of texts. She also said the man had broken into her Highway 17 residence at Bucyrus and stolen multiple items.
The officer has not been able to locate the man and investigation continues.
- On Feb. 14, a deputy conducted a traffic stop on Highway B at Raymondville.
A computer check revealed that the 34-year-old Raymondville man who was driving had a suspended license, and that he had nine previous convictions for a similar offense. A probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.
- A deputy was dispatched at about 10 p.m. March 1 regarding a report of an assault at the Midway Bar and Grill in Cabool.
Upon arrival, the officer observed that Cabool police had detained a 26-year-old Ava man who was a suspect.
The deputy spoke with a woman who was the bartender, and she said that the man had assaulted two, a man and a woman, and that the man had left. She told the officer that while several people were attempting to remove the suspect from the bar, he punched the woman in the face.
The suspect was taken to jail and a probable cause statement was sent to the county prosecutor.
