The Missouri Department of Transportation would spend about $33 million on bridges and highways in Texas County under a five-year study approved this week by the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. A 30-day public review and comment period is underway.
The draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) would replace five bridges in the county, which is the lion’s share of spending during the five-year period.
Projects slated for Texas County under the 2025-2029 highway and bridge construction schedule in Texas County:
•Highway 137, pavement resurfacing from Highway 17 to U.S. Business 60, $3.23 million, 2026-2027.
•Highway 137, bridge replacement over Pine Creek, $2.15 million, 2024-2025.
•Highway 137, bridge replacement over Big Creek, $1.74 million, 2024-2025.
•Highway 137, bridge replacement over South Prong of Jacks Fork, $2.38 million, 2024-2025.
•Highway 17, bridge rehabilitation over Roubidoux Creek, $2.10 million, 2024-2025.
•U.S. 60, bridge replacement over Beeler Creek, $6.73 million, 2028-2029.
•U.S. 63, pavement resurfacing from Highway E to Highway B, $2.2 million, 2026-2027.
•U.S. 63, bridge replacement over Potters Creek, $7.58 million, 2028-2029.
•Highway B, pavement resurfacing from U.S. 63 to end of state pavement, $2.99 million, 2026-2027.
•Highway K, pavement resurfacing from Highway KK to Highway 17, $701,000, 2027-2028.
•Highway VV, pavement resurfacing from Highway 137 to end of state maintenance in Dent County, $1.27 million, 2025-2026.
“The investments made in this year’s STIP fund another 1,400 projects providing transportation improvements to communities across the state,” said MoDOT Director Patrick McKenna. “The General Assembly and the governor’s continued support with general revenue addresses previously unfunded needs that provide safety and economic benefits to all Missourians.”
The draft fiscal year 2025-2029 STIP lists transportation projects planned by state and regional planning agencies for fiscal years 2025-2029 (July 1, 2024 – June 30, 2029) and reflects the transportation needs of communities across the state.
The proposed program is available for public review. Those interested in seeing the program or offering comments can contact MoDOT by email at STIPcomments@modot.mo.gov, by calling customer service at 888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636), or by mail to Transportation Planning, Program Comments, P.O. Box 270, Jefferson City, Mo., 65102. The program is also available on MoDOT’s website: modot.org/DRAFTSTIP. The formal comment period ends May 30.
The summary of comments will be presented to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission following the public review period. After reviewing the summary of comments and the final transportation program, it will be considered for approval at the July 10 MHTC meeting.

I’d like to see a bypass around Houston.
