UPDATE: The Storm Prediction Center has upgraded much of the area to a slight (2 of 5) risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Severe thunderstorm chances increase after 3 p.m.

Texas County is under a heat advisory today, the National Weather Service said.

It said the afternoon heat index values will be 100 to 109 degrees.

Strong to severe storms and heavy rainfall are possible today and tonight. Texas County is in a flood watch area.

The National Weather Service said a cold front will bring the rain. It says some of the storms may be severe and produce heavy rain and flooding. In general, rainfall amounts of .5 to 1.5 inches are expected, with locally higher amounts of 3-5 inches possible in the flood watch area.
