An Edgar Springs man who is a registered sex offender faces a pair of felony charges after a recent Texas County Sheriff’s Department investigation.
Cody A. Dewitt, 34, of 523 County Road 2590 at Edgar Springs, is charged with two counts of failure to register as a sex offender.
A deputy reported that a sheriff’s department official requested on Aug. 25 that the officer verify that Dewitt worked at the Hardee’s restaurant in Houston. Dewitt was reportedly convicted of statutory rape in November of 2015 and is required by state statute to register with the TCSD every 90 days, as well as report changes to employment and/or transportation within three days of the change.
Dewitt had reportedly failed to report that he had been working at Hardee’s for about eight months or that he had been driving a different vehicle to and from work.
On Aug. 26, the deputy went to Hardee’s, arrested Dewitt and took him to jail.
Cash-only bond on the charges is set at $2,000.
